30 Poems in November! is a literary fundraiser in support of literacy programs at Center for New Americans. This year, we seek to raise $30,000, taking our cue from Juan Felipe Herrera, U.S. Poet Laureate, who observed that "30 Poems in November brings 30,000 inspirations in all our lives." Funds raised from this event go a long way toward supporting free classes and services for immigrants in our community. Some Center for New Americans immigrant students write as well.
Writers commit to write one poem a day for the 30 days of November. Some poems offer thoughts and perspectives about the immigrant experience; some are observations about daily life or world events. Friends and family provide support by donating a dollar amount for each poem ($1 x 30 poems = $30).
All poetry lovers are invited to a Reading & Celebration at the Poetry Center at Smith College on Tuesday, December 13.
