Hello, friends of poetry! I'm a Northampton author and supporter of the Center for New Americans, a nonprofit that welcomes and serves immigrants in Western MA with free English classes and job training. Now more than ever, I feel it's important to live up to our American ideals of free expression and support for immigrants. That's why I will be writing a poem a day in November 2018. You may ask, "Who is Jendi and why do we need more poems by them?" First of all, thanks for using my correct pronouns. I am the author of four prizewinning poetry books and chapbooks, most recently "Bullies in Love" (Little Red Tree, 2015), which was partly written during 30 Poems in November 2014! My other works include the Rainbow Award Winning novel "Two Natures" (Saddle Road Press, 2016) and short story collection "An Incomplete List of My Wishes" (Sunshot Press, 2018). This year I am interested in writing persona and travelogue poems that combine the conciseness of poetry with fiction's empathetic curiosity about other ways of life.
