I'm so glad of organizations like the Center for New Americans, who join together to lift each other up.
We've all had the experience of being the newcomer in the room, hoping for a smile or invitation to join in. There are plenty of experiences we don't have in common, though. Arts like poetry make it possible for us to share, learn, understand. I write poetry to try to capture moments that might have been felt by me alone, and in the telling, bring you along.
