Four years ago, I posted this picture of myself and my friend Lydia, a Congolese refugee. At the time, we were getting to know each other on mornings when I drove her to her English classes at the Center for New Americans. In the past four years, Lydia has gotten married, become a mother, continued her studies, and most recently passed the exam and became a US citizen! Lydia and her family's stories are bright lights in these often dark times. The Center for New Americans was a significant part of those stories.
