It's easy to feel overwhelmed in the chaos and suffering of the world these days. And yet, here is one thing I can do right now: I will join other poets, including refugees and immigrants, and we will each write 30 poems, one each day for the month of November, as part of a poem-a-thon fundraiser for Center for New Americans. I hope you can support this effort.

I first heard about Center for New Americans more than twenty years ago as immigrant parents of my students at Jackson St. School frequently told me that was where they were learning English.  Many members of Families with Power learned English and started their path toward citizenship there.

Here's what I will do: I will write one poem each day of November. I will send all my sponsors a poem in mid-November, and another in early December, with an update about how I did.

Here's how you can help: Please sponsor me in this poem-a-thon by making a donation of any size to support the work of Center for New Americans. Please Donate Now and make your pledge.

If you prefer, you can mail a check in support of my fundraising efforts directly to:

Money raised from the 30 Poems in November! project will be donated to the Center for New Americans, a non-profit community-based education and resource center for immigrants, refugees, and other limited English speakers in the Pioneer Valley of Massachusetts. CNA provides free classes in English, technology, job counseling, citizenship assistance and literacy. Your contribution will go directly to CNA's Family Literacy Project.

With gratitude for your support,
