“What the World Needs Now Is Love…” and POETRY! Poetry and Love–two “things we have too little of”--but the things themselves are not little. A touch turns on a light. A word might end a war. A hug can hold a tree. But it’s hard to love the whole unlovable world. Hard to imagine a poem can do any good. But a good poem times 30, times 300 poets, times a dollar or a dime is not nothing, a word could be what the world needs. Now. Maybe it will make the difference between ignorance and attraction, attention and distraction. Maybe with your encouragement, your donation in any amount here and now, together we will make a difference, save a small child who will grow up to save a wider world. With their own words. Center for New Americans has been welcoming and serving immigrants in Western Massachusetts since 1992. We teach free classes in English for Speakers of Other Languages (ESOL), digital literacy, civics, U.S. culture. We offer support services including connections to community resources and assistance finding employment. We also offer some immigration legal services, including assistance applying and preparing for U.S. citizenship, assistance with employment authorization and family petitions, and some humanitarian assistance. We rely on a small, dedicated staff, an engaged board of directors, generous volunteers and supporters, and public and private funding. 30 Poems in November! is one of our most important fundraisers every year.
