This year, even more than in past years, I am heartened by the common purpose, empathy and hope the gathered writers embody. At a time when inhumanity, cruelty and greed seem ascendant, 30 Poems in November affirms community, creativity and connection. The work of the Center for New Americans has never been more important, welcoming, supporting and defending the newest Americans. I’ll write a poem each day in November. Center for New Americans has been welcoming and serving immigrants in Western Massachusetts since 1992. We teach free classes in English for Speakers of Other Languages (ESOL), digital literacy, civics, U.S. culture. We offer support services including connections to community resources and assistance finding employment. We also offer some immigration legal services, including assistance applying and preparing for U.S. citizenship, assistance with employment authorization and family petitions, and some humanitarian assistance. We rely on a small, dedicated staff, an engaged board of directors, generous volunteers and supporters, and public and private funding. 30 Poems in November! is one of our most important fundraisers every year.
