Writing and Raising, 2025

Who among us has never been a stranger? Who has never needed a helping hand? The Center for New Americans helps recent arrivals to adapt to their new lives and become a part of our local community. Please join me in supporting them this November, as I write a poem a day in honor of their good work! This literary fundraiser supports free English classes and other much-needed supports for immigrants, refugees, migrants, and asylum-seekers here in the Pioneer Valley. Center for New Americans has been welcoming and serving immigrants in Western Massachusetts since 1992. We teach free classes in English for Speakers of Other Languages (ESOL), digital literacy, civics, U.S. culture. We offer support services including connections to community resources and assistance finding employment. We also offer some immigration legal services, including assistance applying and preparing for U.S. citizenship, assistance with employment authorization and family petitions, and some humanitarian assistance. We rely on a small, dedicated staff, an engaged board of directors, generous volunteers and supporters, and public and private funding. 30 Poems in November! is one of our most important fundraisers every year.
