I am taking part in this campaign because we are a nation of immigrants, we are made stronger by immigrants, and in any case, I don't like living in a country that slams the door shut once "We've got ours." Maybe I can express that better in a poem. My goal is to get lots of people to pledge -- perhaps one person for every poem? So if you pledged 50 cents per poem -- you could make a pledge of $15.00. Center for New Americans has been welcoming and serving immigrants in Western Massachusetts since 1992. We teach free classes in English for Speakers of Other Languages (ESOL), digital literacy, civics, U.S. culture. We offer support services including connections to community resources and assistance finding employment. We also offer some immigration legal services, including assistance applying and preparing for U.S. citizenship, assistance with employment authorization and family petitions, and some humanitarian assistance. We rely on a small, dedicated staff, an engaged board of directors, generous volunteers and supporters, and public and private funding. 30 Poems in November! is one of our most important fundraisers every year.
