[Stop]

The election of a would-be dictator as President of our country was an enormous tragedy, and the effects have already proved to be far worse than most of us could imagine. It was also a call to pay attention, to do whatever we can to defend our democracy, to stand in the strength of compassion, justice - and community. By supporting the critical work on behalf of refugee and immigrant families at Center for New Americans, you and I are taking exactly that kind of stand.

For the sixteenth year, and gratefully, I'm one of many poets who will write 30 poems in 30 days, beginning November 1st. It is a way of raising funds to support the Center for New Americans and its literally life-saving programs for immigrant and refugee families in western Massachusetts. For reasons I am sure you know, our help at this time is more necessary than ever. We poets are aiming to raise $100,000 this year (believing in the power of words) to offset the loss of federal funds. I urge you to join me to support the critical work of the Center for New Americans. Your contributions will go directly to literacy education of immigrant and refugee families so that they can create in this country what home means to them.

Please pledge whatever you can - any amount will be put right to work, I promise
