Support Refugees through 30 Poems in November

Though I'm not poet, I have been volunteering with refugee and immigrant families for the past three years, and found it to be both essential and gratifying work. But in light of the funding cuts to refugee resettlement programs and the unprecedented assault against people's democratic rights, personal and financial help is needed more than ever. That's why I'm participating in the Center for New Americans' 30 Poems in November fundraising campaign. I'm one of many poets who will write 30 poems in 30 days, beginning November 1st, and I'm asking you to offer a pledge-per-poem or just a one-time donation to support the Center's critical work and literally life-saving programs for immigrant and refugee families in western Massachusetts.

My part of the bargain: I'll write a poem for every day in November. Some of them may be limericks, some of them haiku, some of them with merit and some, maybe not. I'm not a poet, but I'll give it my best effort.

Your part: You'll go online to my page, click on, “Donate Now," and make your pledge. It would be wonderful if you would pledge at least $2 for each of the 30 poems I write, but any amount will be greatly appreciated! Your contribution will be tax-deductible. When you have completed your donation, follow the instructions to print a receipt.

What happens to your donation:  Money raised from the 30 Poems in November! project will be donated to the Center for New Americans, a non-profit community-based education and resource center for immigrants, refugees, and other limited English speakers in the Pioneer Valley of Massachusetts. CNA provides free classes in English, technology, job counseling, citizenship assistance and literacy. Your contribution will go directly to CNA's Family Literacy Project.
