I immigrated to Mexico nine years ago. I want those who immigrated to the USA to be treated as generously as I have been treated here. The continent called America includes Canada, the US, Mexico, Central and all the countries of South America. We are all Americans and we all need each other.
My poetry website is called ReVisionary's View: A Poet's Country is the World, a paraphrase of Virginia Woolf's “A Woman's Country is the World.” As I age (78 now), national borders seem to me more and more artificial, patriarchal scribbles on a map where corporate barons are yelling "Mine, mine!" Instead, let’s cross so-called borders and help one another.
My way of helping is writing poetry. Thank you for your donation, which will go for English classes and citizenship support of every kind. Do it as a thank you to your own ancestors who were immigrants. Do it as an act of solidarity, that is, to tell your own self that you are part of something larger. You are not alone, and neither are the new Americans you are helping. Do it in these turbulent times so we all –you, I, and those you assist –can Take Heart.
