30 POEMS for CNA

Welcome to my fundraising page for Center for New Americans! I am honored again this year to be part of a group of writers who are raising money to support the work of CNA again this year. The Center for New Americans (CNA) provides hope and support through adult education to the under-served immigrant, refugee and migrant communities of Massachusetts’ Pioneer Valley with education and resources to learn English, become involved community members and obtain tools necessary to maintain economic independence and stability.

Dear Friends, poetry lovers and supporters of the Center for New Americans

I am taking a deep dive again into my poetry writing practice.  Recently, I found some graffiti that said, “You don’t just come up with a poem, your heart and vision create it.   I plan to write a poem a day and send it to your inbox,  to raise money for the Center for New Americans.

I have seen first hand the work of CNA with a family who arrived from a Burundi Refugee Camp on a cold winter night 7 years ago with their 5-year-old son.  Fast forward 7 years: both parents are working full time, their English fluency continues to increase, they have driver’s licenses, both have become American citizens, they bought a house, their son is 12 years old \and a soccer star.

In this time of narrowing minds, lessening of the social safety nets, unjust  and violent actions, I am holding the intention and vision of justice and equity for all.  It is most important on my mind.  Please join me in helping CNA continue to provide services to individuals who are now our neighbors.

Many thanks in advance for considering donating for this worthy cause.
