Catch and Release
Sports fishermen and fisherwomen sometimes use the term “catch and release” to indicate a preference for throwing caught fish back, to live a little bit longer, and they often use barbless hooks so they don’t injure the fish too much. Analogous to that, I’ve been thinking that my daily poetry project is like catching the little critters, swimming around in my subconscious, and releasing them back into the social media stream of consciousness. I often need a barbed hook of focused attention to land the big ones. I’ve been neglecting my routine lately, but come November I’m usually motivated to get the old fishing-for words-rod-and-reel out, for the Center for New Americans “Thirty Poems in November” fund raising effort. The CNA is a vital resource in welcoming and assisting new immigrants to our country and community. So help me if you can.
