This is my first time particpating as a writer in this wonderful project that I've supported as a donor for years.
Why now?
First of all, I'm not a poet. I write novels and essasy and stories - all prose. But at my last (big) birthday, I promised myself to try new things, so here I am.
I'm new to this project as a poet, but I've been involved in support of our immigrant neighbors for decades, from my very first job as an RN working with the Migrant Education Project in the 1970s to being a part of a Circle of Care, to my current participation with Jewish Activists for Immigration Justice. This matters deeply to me, and it must matter to you too, if you're reading this. So, let's work together to change the narrative about how our immigrant neighbors and welcomed and supported here, in our communities. We can make a difference.
