For this year’s challenge, award-winning poet Martin Elster and I are writing 30 poems about 30 foods immigrants have brought to America. We’re tracing the journeys of foods such as bagels, burritos, cannoli, cheesecake, and kefir—celebrating the ways immigrants have shaped American culture, one delicious contribution at a time.
Contributors will receive a free e-book of our collection as our way of saying thank you.
If you’re able to contribute, any amount will help the Center continue its vital work with immigrants and newcomers in our community. While the Center raises money for its work, writers like me get a month of creative encouragement—daily prompts, a chance to contribute poems to the annual anthology, and an opportunity to come together for the annual reading. We get nudged to write; the Center gets support. A true win-win.
Thank you for supporting the Center—and for helping keep that promise of welcome alive,
Joan and Marty
