Dear Friends
I am honored to participate in writing and sharing my poems with you throughout the month of November for Center For New Americans annual event “30 Poems”. When I write, I am speaking out about what I feel and observe while finding the niche of a hope and possibility.
The Center for New Americans (CNA) provides hope and support through adult education to the under-served immigrant, refugee and migrant communities of Western Massachusetts. There services include, education and resources to learn English, work towards citizenship, become involved community members and obtain tools necessary to maintain economic independence and stability.
By supporting the work of the Center for New Americans through your donations you are giving others a possibility
I have seen first hand the work of CNA with a family who arrived from a Burundi Refugee Camp (originally from the Congo) on a cold winter night close to 9 years ago with their 5-year-old son. Fast Forward 9 years: both parents are working full time, their English fluency continues to increase, they have driver’s licenses, both have become American citizens, they bought a house, their son is 14 years old and a soccer star.
In these times of such uncertainty, lessening of the social safety nets and other unjust and violent actions, I am holding the intention and vision of justice and equity for all. Please join me is helping CNA continue to provide services to individuals who are now our friends and neighbors.
Many thanks
Jodie Shapiro
