Seems kind of crazily audacious, but I think everyone, at this time in our country's history, needs to go beyond what we normally do. I like to linger on poems and lyrics for weeks or even years, so producing something of note every day seems, well, a little beyond me.
I'm afraid I won't be able to sustain this daily ritual or, worse, I will write really bad poems. But is there such a thing? And what is my judgmental fear compared to the apprehensions, dreams, and shock felt by multiples of thousands of individually courageous people who want nothing more than to feel safe in their new country and are hounded at every corner by the force of oppression which seeks to control their lives and our country?
I have no idea how this will go. But I do have a voice at a time when many are without. I want to use it to write words that draw attention and raise aid for an organization whose sole mission is to assist those in great need of care and protection.
And so my dear sisters and brothers and others, what do you say? We are the essential heart, the hands held out, the will to make better. We are in this together!
