We Are All Immigrants

My mother, Jacoba Flipse (far right), and her siblings in The Netherlands before emigrating to the United States .
Last year, poets in our Valley raised $103,000 in support of the Center for New Americans, which provides free classes in English for Speakers of Other Languages (ESOL); instruction in digital literacy, civics, navigating U.S. systems, and employment readiness; and assistance applying for employment and connecting with community resources.

Let’s be honest. Leaving your home country is never an easy choice.

As the proud daughter and granddaughter of immigrants, I am appalled at the despicable way our government is treating immigrants who come to the United States seeking asylum and a better life for themselves and their families.

The educational, employment, and legal services provided by the Center for New Americans are more essential than ever. Supporting them is an effective way we can help. Please join me in our collective resistance by donating to this very worthy organization.

Once again, I will personally match all donations made to my page. And anyone who donates $100 or more will receive a signed copy of my upcoming poetry collection, Stuffed Monkeys.

Thank you
