Dear Friends, Family, Poetry Lovers, and Just Plain Supporters: I have decided to participate again this year in the Center for New Americans 30 Poems in November Campaign. It will be a st-r-e-e-e-e-e-tch. As some of you know, I have taken on quite a lot of volunteer responsibilities and getting a poem I consider "good" out to you each day will be quite the challenge. There may be a higher percentage of the short-and-sweet variety, and I also hope to make them more phone-friendly, since that's the way many are trying to read them. But who knows, maybe the recovering English major won't be able to give up the Browning and Hopkins and C.K. Williams tributes after all. The important thing, of course, is the $2,022 I hope to raise in 2022 for the indefatigable Center for New Americans, and the hard work their staff and students do every day that serves us all. Thank you for donating $25 $40, $50, $100 or whatever you can, no donation too small, toward that goal.
P.S. You might be gratified to know your loyalty prompts other successes - 2 poems from prior years are headed for publication this fall - "Everyone Needs a Veteran" in War, Literature and the Arts, and "Inscape" in Blue Unicorn. 10/31/22 - And here is another news flash that some of my supporters want me to relay. A poem from last year's 30 Poems campaign ("Catalogue") just won 2nd Place in the Bob Collen poetry competition at the Wheeler Memorial Library in Orange. Thank you to that lovely library and the Collen family for supporting poets and poetry!
