Supporting students in their job search
Our students—immigrants, refugees, migrants, and asylum-seekers—are focused on working. Our colleagues and volunteers are focused on supporting them through the job search process.
Recently, teachers and an advisor organized a “mock job fair” to give students practice introducing themselves to prospective employers, and inquiring about available positions. Volunteers joined Center for New Americans staff members in role playing potential employers.
The following day, advisors accompanied students to a real job fair at Greenfield Community College.
From the pictures below, it’s hard to distinguish the mock job fair from the real thing!
Over the next few weeks, our advisors will accompany students to a few more job fairs, and will continue to offer assistance with creating resumes and fine tuning interviewing skills. We appreciate the employer partners who contact us to recruit our students and alumni, as well as our partners at the MassHire Career Centers who offer additional employment support.
